Visiting Sicily

Sicily, Italy, is a gorgeous location with some of the most stunning natural locations, long and significant histories, cultural and artistic settings, and more – all at your fingertips.  What is the first thing you should see?  What is the thing that you would regret most if you missed it?  Here are just a few tips to keep in mind when visiting Sicily, to make your trip count.

First of all, you absolutely must see Mount Etna.  This is the tallest active volcano in all of of Europe, and it's the second most active volcano in the world.  In the province of Catania, you will find two major hikes around the mountain.  The north side is about a longer and more technical hike for those who love a more intense trek.  For those who prefer something more casual, the south side tour is a five hour long trip that is only moderately difficult.  You will see the Bove and Summit craters in your trip.

Once you're done marveling at nature's wonders, check out the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento.  This is one of the most important archeological sites in the world, and features temples built on a high hill ridge, and temples to a many ancient Roman Gods (Juno, Concordia, Heracles, Jupiter, Vulcano, Castor, and Pollux) can be found here – some complete, and some in ruins.

Once you're done with ancient wonders, modern wonders await in Taormina and Palermo, where some of the best dining, wine, dance clubs, and modern life experiences away.  If, while visiting Sicily, you want to find a balance, these cities also feature theaters, art museums, and more.
